I know what this error means. But why am I recieving it?

Hello everyone! Merry Christmas! I know it's been a bit since I have been here, so here I am!

Now lets talk about this. My calculator crashed a week ago, and when I turned it on, it said 'Memory cleared'. Sure enough, I thought EVERYTHING was gone. But it was not. The only two things that was erased whas Omnicalc and Calendar (from Detached Solutions). When I attempt to archive any program, AppVar, or any file, I recieve a ERR:BAD ADDRESS. I sent a new 2.55 operating system, and still recieving the same error. There are certain files I cannot afford to lose, and I cannot send anything to TI-Connect CE because I keep getting the "Hello?" message when I select "Send to computer". What should I do? These are valuable files and I would be very upset if I lost them forever (Even with prgmARCHUDEL).
Has this happened to any of you before? Or something similar? Tell me your story! I'd like to know if this can help me solve this situation.

This has never happened to me, BUT there are a few things you can look at. Go to 2nd>Mem and try and locate the files.

• If their size is really small (1-20 bytes) then the calculator is probably only storing the name and not the file anymore.
• If their size looks like what it should be, then the file is (maybe?) still there, just inaccessible. I don't have a cable so I don't know if this would work, but you could try copying the files over onto your computer (NOT TI-Connect, just the computer) and try and access them that way?

As I've never been in this situation idk if any of the solutions I gave work or not, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I fixed this when I used the GarbageCollect command. I also lost those files….

Well, you didn’t really lose the files because of the GarbageCollect. What happened was that when it crashed it erased the files, but before it could remove the pointers (menu entries), it stopped. Then, when you ran one of the pointers, the address to which it pointed was not valid and you got a bad address error. All the garbage collect did was remove the pointers which no longer pointed to anything, which is one of the intended purposes of garbagecollect.

Well, I must have lost the files, because I did not group them up. They were also in RAM at the time. So when my calculator crashed, it was cleared. Along with a few flash applications. I also ran prgmARCHUDEL to see if I could restore the files, but failed.
