how is a (cryptographic) preimage attack done? i know the obvious answer would be to put the encrypted info into the algorithm backwards, but that doesnt help for hashs. how would a preimage attack be done normally? all i know about it is that the point of a preimage attack is to find the data that would create the hash, or to find a hash that can be made with a different input. its basically a collision attack, but different.
is there any way to explain it in human terms?
