Ok everyone here is great at programming and giving support. Congrats.

We do have a "situation". Since school has started, I have seen about 100 TI-84+'s all over my grade. Every single one of them has MIRAGEOS. Ignoring warnings or not knowing about them, they add it anyway. I have personally seen 2 calcs crash completely. What I'm getting to is that as buggy as MOS is, it's still the hit. Do we have any people here who make those kind of programs? Basically, a set of games like that would "bring this site to life" if we added a link somewhere in the program to this site.

Basically, we add the basic games, then people may come to the site to request some more. If it gets done, they are happy, they tell other people, and more people come. We get these huge groups of people coming and they keep coming back for more updates.

I know I am a hypocrite kinda because I can't do crap, but for the people who can, this is kinda your chance.

MirageOS is buggy? I've never had it crash on me ever, and i've been using it for years and years.

As for people flocking to our wiki… be carefully what you wish for. thats all i have to say

I was once part of a forum that was really cool. Everyone knew each other and everyone read everyone else's fan-fics, and everyones posts always got answered. Then it got really popular, people started spamming, flaming, more an more stories started showing up, barely any were read, there were very many members, but very few actually posted more than once. Many pointless topics were created by morons such as topics where you have a party. It was not fun at all, and then it eventually got shut down…

I personally like this wiki because its so small. Everyone who's here knows what there doing, and if they don't, we can help them. We all know each other on a more personal note than just another user. We all know each other as programmers.

Builderboy makes a point: this is a wiki dedicated to TI-Basic developers, not just to people who like calc gaming. If all those students start flowing in, the wiki would lose this status.

I agree.

Just look at ticalc.org. It has who knows how many members, way too many files, and not much help.

TI|BD is a site where you can ask questions and get them answered within the hour, not year!!!

Besides, the people at ticalc.org might not even know how to program a calc. They just want games.

Sure, If you're in algebra class and your teacher is talking and all you're hearing is "bla-bla-bla-bla..", then maybe playing zelda isn't the best option. Try asking a question on here, and we'll answer you.

TI-Basic Developer is like any other calculator site, so the growth is not going to be explosive but rather just organic. At the same time, the site is only two years old, so it is still relatively new compared to sites like ticalc.org, unitedti.org, and cemetech.net. So, if you guys want more people to visit and post, the fastest way to do that is to visit and post yourself — people are attracted to other people.

MOS has never crashed on me in all the time I have had it (that doesn't count though, because I don't use it). What you have to remember is that a lot of your fellow students won't go past the EXEC menu of the PRGM button. They are just your typical calculator user. I see two more likely ways people got MOS:
1. They don't get the warnings (I never got any warnings and it hasn't crashed on me)
2. They get it transferred to from a friend's calc, and aren't told the warnings.
And, don't forget, there are always other factors to deal in for a crash.

I personally like DCS, it allows you to run anything (ION, assembly, MOS, etc) except flash applications. By the way, if you have DCS6 on your calc, hold down the number 2 key while starting the app. Remember: DCS6 will never crash your calc on purpose.

I like the smallness of the wiki. at liveswifers.org, it may take a day or two to get a reply to your post, but I enjoy it there.

what are the warnings? i use MOS extensively, and it's only crashed on me a few times (that is, subtracting all the times a buggy ASM program was at fault).

I wondered the same thing. I checked at its home, Detached Solutions, no warnings. At ticalc.org, the only hint it can crash is in the reviews. I find it hard to ignore warnings that don't exist. Unless they're verbal warnings fellow students gave each other, but we weren't told anything about the warnings.

I saw quite a few crash just recently.
The math teacher told us that it does it.

Why would they put warnings on the site unless it became a legal issue? It gets more people to download it.

I do like the smallness most of the time now that i think of it. :D

I found Mirage OS crash or do unpredictable things when running BASIC programs on it. For example, using powerful commands such as the seq( command can result in undesired responces (RAM clears, incorrect calculations, etc, etc.).

For that reason, I make my programs "Mirage OS incompatible" to avoid any accusations of a flawed program. This is sometimes a problem because when people recieve the program, they go straight to Mirage OS, can't find it, and never end up using it. A sacrifice I make.

there is a way to tell whether or not your program is being run from MirageOS, and then you could just tell the user to run it normaly and quit.

run a getkey at the very first line and if it returns a value, you are in mirageOS. This is because (i think) when mirageOS executes your selection and enters the program, it does not clear the keypress.

Oh, I see. You meant tell if you were in MOS while you were running it. I somehow misunderstood, and thought you meant there was a way to tell if someone had run your prgm from Mirage. In retrospect, that doesn't make any sense.

Its pretty simple.

Another benefit to having this is that if you have a program that has a menu at startup, and uses 2nd as select, if you run it from MirageOS it will be like you press select right when you get to the menu, which you might not want if you want to actually make any choices. ;)

Using this enables you to tell whether or not your in MirageOS and you cancel out the leftover 2ndand it doesn't mess with your program.
