How to work with Functions [f(x)=] and "x" inputs

Hello, I would like to know how I do a program that request a function [f(x)=], the lower bound [a] and the upper bound [b] as input and after that show me f(a) and f(b).
All I did was:

Request "Input a function:",f ### for exemple x^2+2x-3
Request "Input the lower bound:",a
Request "Input the upper bound:",b

But after that, I don't know how to do "x" be replaced by "a" and "b".

Someone can help?

I feel like there is an easier, more straight-forward way, but the following should work:

Request "Input a function:",f
Request "Input the lower bound:",a
Request "Input the upper bound:",b
expr(a)→a
expr(b)→b
y(x):=expr(f)

Disp y(a)
Disp y(b)

Also:

Request "Function:",f(x)
Request "Lower Bound:",a
Request "Upper Bound:",b
Disp f(a)
Disp f(b)

This works if you have CAS. I don't know what happens if you don't.
