SiCoDe bug
patriotsfanpatriotsfan 1215198483|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

Recently, I went to SiCoDe's website at http://sicode.ticalc.org and found a major bug. The game I downloaded was Brick Block and when I tried to ungroup the game file, I ran across ERR:MEMORY even when I had enough memory. If you tried to ungroup it again, the calculator crashes and won't turn on when you press the ON button. The only way to turn it back on is to take out a battery, put it back in and be greeted with a RAM CLEARED message. Also, on the memory management screen, there was a weird file called wn(triangle)B-BRI. Even if you delete it, it still comes back on whenever you check your memory. The only way for the program to work is by transferring the program and the picture variable one by one.

Any comments or suggestions are welcomed. I want to know if any of you guys encounter the same problem.

what extension does the group end in, and what model calculator do you have?

i noticed that some group files do not ungroup well and result in exceedingly horrible things to happen on your calculator. But like you said, it works if you send the files one by one.

Have you tried metroid pi?

So Metroid Pi works for you now? Not getting the same problems as before?

patriotsfan, it sounds like another assembly program gone wrong. I bet that if you completely reset your calculator, had nothing on it, and then try to ungroup the SiCoDe group, that you will find no problems.

nope, probably some wierd ungrouping error. just ungroup it on the computer and all is well.
(And even when i had NOTHING on my calculator, the group would still not ungroup for metroid pi, i'm not sure it will for you either.)

I've never had an issue ungrouping a program, and the program I use is TI GraphLink.

I use TI connect.
And the neat thing about that is that when you install it, all you have to do is right click the program and select "send to ti device"

but that might be the root of my problems.

Yeah, TI Connect isn't as reliable as TI GraphLink. The newer calculators don't work very well with TI GraphLink, but you can always use it to ungroup programs and then send them to your calculator with TI Connect.

I use both, but I can't get TI GraphLink to recognize my calc. TI Connect works perfectly, although it's slower than heck.

You're right, Metroid Pi doesn't work on my calculator. Also, I tried it on the Flash Debugger emulator and it couldn't ungroup. I'm convinced TI Connect has something to do with the weird ungrouping.

Is the file extension of the group (before it is on the calc) .8xg?

The file extension is actually .83g for the group. Does it mean anything?

Unless you had a TI-83, it would be a safe idea to not put that on your calc. TI-83+ and up have used .8xg.

I had much problems with Metroid Pi aswell.

Perhaps the application used to produce it actually corrupted the file?

Anyway, I made my own group of it, which works perfectly. Except for one thing: I get errors when versing the first boss, and the error is:

If Ans=π

Because Ans is actually a list at that moment.

RandomProductions is right that it is not a good idea to try to transfer a TI-83 group file to a TI-83+ or higher. However, there should be no problems when transferring the individual TI-83 files, and that's why I recommended first ungrouping the group with TI GraphLink then sending the individual files with TI Connect.
