Hi admins and members of this site? I am asking myself why downloads of routines are in .zip (I assume that they consist of only 1 file). Why don't we put the downloads in .txt or .8xp format? And without WinZip/WINRar one is not even able to extract the file!

Actually, on Windows XP and Vista, it comes with an unzipper, Mac has its own built-in unpacker, and Linux OS's usually come with one if it's any good.

The reasons why they are not in the following formats:
.8xp - I know, from having my own wiki here, that it will not allow it uploaded
.txt - .8xp files are a different format. There is no converter available.

Actually, for Mozilla Firefox users, if we click on the .8xp file, instead of downloading it, it automatically views the file (incorrectly) in the browser. If we put it in a .zip file, it downloads instead.

.zip is a universal format, and most of us (the world, not this community) can't read .rar files, and can read .zip files. And most of us don't want to download extra software to read it.

.zip is also readable by Windows 98 (later versions), Windows ME and Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, without any extra software.
