I'm creating a text based RPG and I know how to save most things (health items XP ect…) but the point of the game is to progress through a map I drew out… how do I save the characters position on the map?
I typically just save an (X,Y) coordinate for the character and often a coordinate for the upper-left corner of the map. Then using these coordinates along with the map width or height, you can calculate which part of the map to load up when the player comes back to the game, and using the (X,Y) coordinates, you know where to draw the player.
By the way, are you using lists?
