My political rant:

We're glad you came by, but you might find what you're looking for elsewhere. TI-Basic Developer is not the site it once was. While its information on commands and other calculator features remains almost second-to-none, its forum, archives, and even hosting service, Wikidot, have been decaying for years. The calculator community would love to see what you're working on, or help you in your next coding adventure, but TI-Basic Developer is no longer the place to do it. Instead, you should head over to Cemetech (primarily American) or TI-Planet (primarily international). Both are active, well-established forums with their own archives, chatrooms, reference material, and abundant coding tools and resources. We'll see you there, we hope.

Why can't we all just get along??

I'm not quite sure how spread out across the globe we are here at wikidot, but I myself live in the US. The one thing that annoys me is that Republicans and Democrats rarely get finished arguing with each other long enough to actually pass something of significant use. Yes, we've made some steps in recent years but it annoys me how much we can't agree on some sort of common goal. The point is, aren't we all fighting for the same country?? We all want to see our country succeed, be prosperous, have good international relations, and have happy, healthy, educated, and protected people. Yet for some reason, we feel the need to split into political rivals, bicker with each other, get mad at each other, laugh at each other, and shoot each other down just because we disagree on how to accomplish it! The Republicans' and Democrats' arguments make we wonder whether our government still knows what their job actually is. Their job is to help us as a people, and to cooperate to get that done, not figure out where everyone else's weak points of office are. So for America's sake, please stop fighting each other long enough to realize that we're all on the same side here.

Agreed, but some can argue that one party is worse then two, because that would be the only government. True democracy would be futile because we need a speaker and representative to present our thoughts. Government controlling ppl is not a good thing to switch to in America because of the fundemental laws in our minds, but it works in other places (Singapore).

I agree that having only one political party could lead to some huge issues. There's no need to slaughter each other's ideas though. I also agree that the government controlling the people wouldn't work either. My idea of a good presidential debate is not something in which both parties try and pick out everything their opponent has done wrong, but instead convince the audience that he has better ideas. In a perfect world, he would actually convince his presidential opponent.

Unfortunately nowadays, if you only support your own ideas and don't attack the opposition, the public believes this to be a sign of 'weakness'. When others are attacking you, you have to attack back; defending isn't good enough in the public eye.
That's what happened to Obama during the first debate. He attacked Romney some, but not enough.

That's more of a social issue than a political issue, since they're trying to appeal to the public. The influx of foreign ideas and customs has helped this some.

I personally wouldn't view it as a sign of weakness, but instead a sign of respect and maturity to the other candidate. An example if immaturity would be Biden at the Vice debate who kept interrupting and laughing at Paul Ryan. Very rude, whether or not Paul Ryan is saying anything sensible.

That's an interesting perspective, but I don't think divided culture alone is the primary issue that ails this country. Rather, it is that all of the problems — divided culture, national deficit, housing, education, healthcare, medicare/medicaid, wars, etc. — are happening concurrently which has created a cascading effect that is too great to overcome.

I agree its good to share ideas, but its what makes it hard is that when the democrats say to compromise, they refuse to do so themselves. The Republicans compromise and the Democrats won't. Take the debt ceiling, last year, for example: the Republicans made a bunch of plans but the Democrats never agreed and stuck to their original one. If the Democrats refuse to compromise, neither should we!
