We're glad you came by, but you might find what you're looking for elsewhere. TI-Basic Developer is not the site it once was. While its information on commands and other calculator features remains almost second-to-none, its forum, archives, and even hosting service, Wikidot, have been decaying for years. The calculator community would love to see what you're working on, or help you in your next coding adventure, but TI-Basic Developer is no longer the place to do it. Instead, you should head over to Cemetech (primarily American) or TI-Planet (primarily international). Both are active, well-established forums with their own archives, chatrooms, reference material, and abundant coding tools and resources. We'll see you there, we hope.

Hi my name is superchufrostbite… a year ago i taught myself how to program my Ti-84+ (normal edition). my programs are crappy compared to the stuff on here. (still enough to impress most ppl at school.) and right now I am working on the old Atari 2600 classic : ASTEROIDS. my proof of concept tests for the game ended when my RAM cleared itself. I am now almost done with the first real version. my prototype of the game. not sure if any1 wants to see it tho. its really crappy and buggy. O.o

That sounds pretty cool, superchufrostbite. Asteroids is a pretty hard game to make, you have to manage the trigonometry of the ship, not to mention drawing it at multiple angles, the shooting (I have yet to make a game that has more than 1 bullet shot at once) and the physics of the asteroids colliding. It must've taken a long time to make, too bad your RAM cleared. Good thing you decided to keep programming! I'd love to see your asteroids game!

BTW the ship was the easy part and the asteroids never collided in the real game. i started proof of concept testing on the 15th of this month, ram got cleared about a week ago, ( luckily my sprite programs and the program that controls them was grouped and not entirely deleted… just all the changes to it) and you can already fly around and shoot crap. it just domain errors if the laser is fired too close to the edge some times. i haven't even tried to make the ship able to be destroyed yet, and due to how the program registers laser hits, calculates score and keeps track of size… sometimes the wrong asteroid is split, and and if that asteroid has a size of zero, the calc divides by zero.

Will it be written in basic or ASM? I can't really see asteroids being written in basic and running at a decent rate.

pure BASIC.
I'm working on that problem. i might have BASIC and ASM versions, but the main problem is only 8 firing angles. i plan to fix this by having secondary weapons that do splash damage. also deleting the 'destroids' (Destroyed Asteroids) from the list. its really buggy, but i can handle it. (also i dont know asm.)
the first version is kinda slow, but all I have to do still is make the ship able to die and fix bugs. if you want to take a look, ill send it to you. keep in mind, this is just barely one step above proof-of-concept tests, and i like closing parenthesis and using IF THEN ELSE in early versions so I can follow it easier and find problems quicker.
