Homepage Redesign

We're glad you came by, but you might find what you're looking for elsewhere. TI-Basic Developer is not the site it once was. While its information on commands and other calculator features remains almost second-to-none, its forum, archives, and even hosting service, Wikidot, have been decaying for years. The calculator community would love to see what you're working on, or help you in your next coding adventure, but TI-Basic Developer is no longer the place to do it. Instead, you should head over to Cemetech (primarily American) or TI-Planet (primarily international). Both are active, well-established forums with their own archives, chatrooms, reference material, and abundant coding tools and resources. We'll see you there, we hope.

I am thinking about redesigning the homepage for both sections of the site (i.e., the TI-83 and 68k pages), as the current pages are rather cluttered and stagnant, and believe a redesign would inspire people to more fully use the site and post on the forum. So, I wanted to get everybody's feedback — What do you guys like about the current homepage? What things would you guys change or add to the homepage? Please don't hold back with your feedback or suggestions; this is about making the site better for you guys and everybody else who visits.

I like this design. I always use the Recent Post and Recent Threats in the side menu. I can't say I don't like this design, but I'd also be happy with an other deaign if the side menu is the same.

I like how it includes the forum sidebar, and the reorganization. But it just doesn't feel the same .
Could you separate the boxes a little, add the blue header, and bring the Search box back? I know it's in the top right of every page, but you can't choose from pages only/pages and forum/forum only. You have to search something first, then choose which one you want.

Oh, that's what you meant… I personally wasn't that big of a fan of the blue color, as it doesn't tie into the rest of the color scheme on the site. However, I do like the header idea.

On my smallish screen, the bottom of the page looks a little cluttered; I think there may be too much stuff after the six featured boxes. Perhaps you can eliminate "New to TI-Basic?" and instead change the header on the side bar to be more fitting? Also, development and techniques can be combined into one thing; that should be enough to get people to search the content.

I was worried about it being too cluttered… the problem is there is simply too many worthwhile things on this site that deserve highlighting. I'm not exactly sure that I follow what you are saying, however, about changing the header of the sidebar to be more fitting? I think it would be best if you just edited the page yourself to how you see fit; it is much easier to have something to look at than having to explain and describe it.

Yes, I like the new look! The gray tints on the headers do look a lot better than the original's blue.

I like the simplifying of the CSS code, but I think the updated boxes look bulky with the thick borders.

I made some additional modifications to the redesigned homepage, including the creation of a few featured programs and projects pages, and decided to make it the new homepage. I hope you guys like it!

My favorite part is the featured program area. Finally, there is a showcase for the archives portion of the site!

I'll still play with the test page, and you can decide whether it is good or not.

It looks nice, but I still like the thinner borders around the info boxes better.

How about with the thinner borders? The biggest difference is the tri-columned boxes; I additionally set the vertical align to top on all of them.

With the redesign of the respective calculator homepages, I think it makes sense to redesign the main homepage as well. Just like before, I was wondering if you guys have any ideas or things you would like to see?

Yeah, I hadn't realized the images were hosted offsite, so that's what confused me. My school laptop has a filter on it, so I'd thought that the images were hosted on site. My bad.
