Fake "RAM & Archive Cleared" Screen

I need to make a program that generates/displays a fake full memory clear screen, but I do not have a calculator at my disposal whose RAM & Archive memory I can clear to provide a sample. This would be for a TI-84, so if there is anyone out there who has a calculator whose memory they can clear, it would be really helpful if you could provide either a picture or a recreation of the screen layout.

Also, if there is anyone who has made such a program, your advice would also be appreciated.

That should work, except for the flashing cursor on the upper-left. Have it go through a 'Repeat getkey' loop in which it displays it, and changes it every second or so.

I made a program like this in full Basic, and I'm sure you would be trying a similar maneuver for the purposes of conceptual reasons only. That is to say, you surely wouldn't want to cheat or void the rules of a testing environment at school by the use of such a program? In any case:
The program I have pretends to do a full memory wipe. It takes a second or so to set up, and it makes a fake menu prompting a full wipe with the underlying text warning. It waits until you hit enter before taking a certain amount of time (approximately the amount it takes for an actual wipe) before displaying that the memory has been wiped. As it is, the text displayed at the end does not show the window that comes up on the new OS, but mimics the last version instead. The beginning of the program asks what model calculator you have, so that it can mimic an 84+silver, 83, or N-spire.
The purpose of the fake menu is that if you have, say, a friend with a stickler for a teacher that presses the enter button herself to make sure it wipes, such a friend can still keep his or her programs. Not that I would have ever had such an acquaintance. I'll upload the one I made later so you can look at it.

Cool thank you. And no need to worry, im not going to cheat on a test, but every time my friend takes math tests he loses all the programs I've given him (mostly games, & other random things). This is to avoid having to reconnect our calcs every week. Also, I might have a teacher at some point who does this, & I have an obscene amount of precious, unbacked up programs on my calculator, and I work on them nonstop

I found out a way to do the flashing cursor:

P.S., note that this isn't foolproof. The teacher can press a button, like 8 or PRGM, and find out that the screen was fake.

The 'rand(40' creates a list of 40 random #'s, which takes a long time. It's purpose is to create a time block, otherwise the cursor would flash way too fast.

Zeda has a line of asm code that moves the graph screen to the home screen.

Set up the graph screen, display all the text, and then run this hex code:
214093063EEF7048C9
To move the stuff to the home screen.

I am glad people have found a good use for that code >.> XD If you change the 4093, you can display other pieces of memory and the 3E in 063E can be changed to anything from 00 to 3F without causing a crash (or it should work). 3Eh=62, so it displays all the rows from 0 to 62.

You could create another picture of the prgm menu to display if they press PRGM… But that's not really viable, because you would have to create a whole new fake OS that is realistic.
But if you REALLY want to do it, and not as a learning BASIC experience, check out http://www.brandonw.net/calculators/fake/

Wolfgang has 2.55 MP on his TI-84+. It won't work. Actually, I believe almost everyone in my school with a TI-84+/SE has 2.53 MP or above.

Fortunately for me (or really my friend I guess), is that the teacher just checks for the mem cleared screen, and that's that.

I wanted to use this hexcode at the end of one of my games when it displays who won, that way it doesn't show the ugly "Done." piece. It doesn't work with my calculator… TI 84 Plus C Silver Edition. Do you know the hex code for my calc to perform similar task?

I forgot to mention: this isnt the silver edition. Can you still help me, or do you only know the format for the se? Also, does the full memory clear have that box with the shortcut message? Because with the coordibates you gave me for mem clear, it overlaps with the box…

The problem is the Window Settings. I forgot to give you them.
I don't remember exactly what they were when I gave you them, but I believe they were:
Xmin:-47
Xmax:47
Ymin:-31
Ymax:31
And I have an 83+ and a 84+SE, so I don't know what an 84's looks like. I'm not sure if it has the box. Sorry.

I intuitively put the windo setting like that, because those are the "true" dimensions of the screen. I do know that there is a box, because I've had my ram cleared before, but not a full memory clear

You have some errors. When I copied your code, it kind-of worked. Sort of failed too. I suggest you relook at your code and try again.

So in a totally different direction, I backed my device up on the computer, reset the RAM, took a screenshot, restored the device, sent the screenshot to my calculator as a PIC file, then created a program that clears the screen and displays that picture.

Please don't give out your address to the whole world. I know the American government already has that information, but that shouldn't make you want to give it out to the whole world. Also, there are cheap I/O cables out there if you desperately need one.

I have been wondering if i could find all of the placement of the text and the coordinates of the box for the MEM clear screen on the TI-84+ (not SE) with 2.55MP myself. I realized that the layout for a RAM clear and a full memory clear is the same, except that MEM is displayed instead of RAM, so I just archive all of my programs before doing a RAM clear so that I can analyze the screen. The only problem is that it is very hard to count pixels without those cross hairs that you can move around, pixel by pixel.
Does anyone know of any techniques for counting pixels easily?
Perhaps I can get the screen to transfer to the graphscreen without it it clearing somehow, but I have a feeling that that is getting into really complicated stuff that is likely not worth the effort.

Take a screenshot of your calc using TI-Screen Capture or of an emulator. Then open up the image, zoom in, and turn on the gridlines.

It's so easy to count pixels on "real" TI-84+ calculators. I have a TI-nspire, and it is impossible to count pixels when using the TI-84 emulator keypad, because each TI-84 "pixel" is made up of 3x3 actual pixels.

I have made one of these before, solely because I had cool files I made on my calc. I got a cable later, so I couldn't back up my things then.

Anyways, for anyone who wants to backup your things, get ticonnect and a ti comp to calc cable, such as a silver link; but I believe it depends on what calculator you have.

You can use TI-Connect CE to take a screenshot of you calc after an actual memory clear, then store it back on the calc as a pic. Make sure that the typing cursor is black when you take the screenshot. Then you can use a loop with a delay to put spaces over the cursor (make it flash off) and then recall the pic again. The delays might have to be adjusted depending in your calc's speed. This is a prank version of it where it appears to clear the memory after every calculation, but you can take that feature out to make the Mem Cleared Screen.

Actually learning the math and how to use your calculator appropriately will be much more beneficial than cheating in the long (and possibly short) run.

Yes, however, simply the creation and sharing of that kind of code is controversial. You may just be using it for a prank, but anyone else on the internet could use it differently.

Personally I create a group for all my programs. Them you can clear your RAM and no programs will show under the PRGM menu. But if you go back to group and if you ungroup the programs you just grouped, everything will return back to normal. You can group any variables (including lists, strings, equations etc.). Keep in mind this will only work for a RAM reset. Resetting all memory will delete the group.

Apart from handing out pre-cleared calculators, is there a 100% bulletproof procedure to prevent students from using above methods? Stop all running programs + memory clear procedure or something? Factory reset pinhole?

For most cases, just pull a battery, reinsert, then proceed as normal. It's not 100% fool proof, but it's fairly close. For calcs where that's but feasible, press [ON] and then proceed. It's a little less foolproof, but that will prevent most BASIC attempts.

You can have the students start their calculators into test mode by holding down the left and right arrow keys and turning the calculator on. This will disable access to Apps, programs, pictures, and optionally several other features. After the test, the students can take their calculators out of test mode by linking with another calculator or a computer.

I personally prefer this option because it achieves the same effect as clearing all memory without forcing students to actually delete things that they may have created.

On newer calculators, this also changes the color of the menu bar at the top so that it is easy for the proctor to verify that the calculator is in test mode.
