So I was thinking about the Olympics the other day, and I thought, "Why isn't there an academic version of the Olympics?" This is what it would look like: high school and college students compete in different academic "challenges:" for example, writing an essay, math team competitions, etc. This could be held at different college/universities, e.g., MIT or Oxford.
Short list of possible events:
- Essay competition
- Debate competition
- Musical performance
- Theatrical performance
- Oration performance
- Math team competition
- Robotics competition
- TI-Basic competition (programming should have its own section, and TI-Basic is versatile enough that a near-endless amount of challenges could be made)
- Science fair
The possibilities for events in this is pretty large; my list just gives a few examples. Does anyone else think this is a good idea, or am I just crazy?
