I think this routine's existence is questionable, since the routine itself is poorly written and runs slowly (yes, I know I wrote it). The majority of our routines are either:
- the only way to accomplish a task (as with the number to string routine)
- almost certainly the smallest and fastest way to do it
- optimized for either speed or size, and good in the other attribute as well
This routine is none of these.
Of course, another issue is that it's more of a stand-alone program than a routine, and not too short either. No one would ever implement conway's game of life as part of a larger program. I'm willing to overlook it in the case of very short routines, but some should be moved. Maybe make Sample Programs a parent page like routines, and move such cases there?
