Merging TI-Basic Wiki

Now that we have finished merging xLIB Guru, I think the next natural step is to consider merging TI-Basic Wiki. Not only has the wiki pretty much died (there have been only two edits in the past month and no new contributing editors), but the founder (AtionSong) has stopped contributing as well.

I have tried unsuccessfully three times to contact him to see what his plans are for the wiki, but he never responded. I checked the main Wikia site, and they actually have a page discussing how to go about merging a wiki with another wiki. I don't know if it applies to a non-wikia wiki, but I'm going to email them and ask. What do you guys think?

Well in the first place, wikidot uses a slightly different syntax, and it might not be possible to import pages as XML into wikidot. Also, I'm not sure what merging would achieve other than creating inferior duplicates of a few command pages.

My main reason for wanting to merge the wiki is because I think it does nobody any good having a dead wiki with subpar content. If anything, it just confuses TI-Basic beginners who end up on the wiki and try to use the content (which I know happens because the wiki shows up in the top search results for TI-Basic). Rather than just leave the wiki to rot, I think it makes sense to merge it with this one.

As far as the content is concerned, we can just keep the content that is decent (such as the beginner's guide and game types) or that we don't have a similar page started for (such as some of the commands). Adding the content would probably need to be done the old fashioned way, but that wouldn't take much time.

Ya I don't exactly think it will achieve much beyond duplicate pages as DarkerLine said.

I've looked over a list of the pages on the wiki, and have found exactly five which I don't think are duplicated on TI|BD.

• The Beginner's_Guide_to_Programming_TI-BASIC, which TI|BD currently doesn't really have. This is the only real useful bit. And I can't give a link to it because it has an apostrophe in it and I'm too lazy to figure out how to get around that. It's linked to from the homepage.
• Two sample programs: Mine Field and "Getkey Program". If heavily improved, which I'm going to do, they may or may not be useful content.
• A tutorial on writing a text adventure. Not sure if it's useful or not, but has very little content.
• A contentless stub

Once these are taken care of one way or the other, we'll put up the "merged" template on the wikia wiki, at which point there will be nothing left to do.

We actually already had the mine field program here at this wiki — the same guy posted it here and at the TI-Basic wiki. Since it was a program, I decided to just delete the page and add the program to the programs page.

I just looked at the beginner's guide - Whoever wrote it basically told beginners to add memory leaks, by satying to use a goto command, do the following:

Some of the stuff is good, but a lot of it wasn't explained well (or at all). Although, for the third one, I guess I can't really say, because it wasn't finished. Also, the Guessing game linked to could use some optimization as to teach good habits.

Yeah, and Asteroid 1.0 had one, so it really enforced it.

Actually, now that I think of it, the current version may have one at the very end… I'll have to check.

I just finished adding all of the pages at TI-Basic wiki that DarkerLine mentioned, and subsequently changed the homepage and the wiki description page at TI-Basic wiki to display the merge notice. I also sent an email to one of the Wikia staff about the merge, so now I just need to wait for their response.
