reading the pattern is essentially just reading 2 things 1) a merging of coordinates by different cells and 2) the counting of the number of times cells merged at a particular spot…let the thing that moves be "cells" and the grid be "grid"
for 1) what you can do is a comparison of lists, you can construct ANOTHER LIST containing all the coordinates of the grid, for example, if you are talking about a 10 x 12 grid, then your COMPARISON LIST should consist of 120 identities…you can read the position of each cell by registering their coordinate after each cycle
FOR EXAMPLE, randomly generated movement moves Cell1 from (1,1) to (1,2) on a 10x12 (10,12) grid…u then count that THERE IS ONE ADDED CELL at this grid position, since 10x12 is equal to 120…ur equation can be for cell at (X,Y)…position in COMPARISON LIST is at Lix((X-1)*10+Y)…for a cell at (1,5), its position in the COMPARISON list is thus at Lix(5)…each DISTINCT grid position thus have a DISTINCT identity in the COMPARISON LIST
HOWEVER, if the NEXT movement of the cell is not nil i.e (0,0) movement…then make an "if" or "for" statement to remove the cell count from that COMPARISON LIST
