The Home Screen and Its Commands / Discussion

We're glad you came by, but you might find what you're looking for elsewhere. TI-Basic Developer is not the site it once was. While its information on commands and other calculator features remains almost second-to-none, its forum, archives, and even hosting service, Wikidot, have been decaying for years. The calculator community would love to see what you're working on, or help you in your next coding adventure, but TI-Basic Developer is no longer the place to do it. Instead, you should head over to Cemetech (primarily American) or TI-Planet (primarily international). Both are active, well-established forums with their own archives, chatrooms, reference material, and abundant coding tools and resources. We'll see you there, we hope.

New Table

I just made a new table for this page. I took away the image and made a wiki table just to see if anyone liked it better. I made it for these three reasons:

1. It would be easier to update the table.
2. It goes with the look and feel of the wiki better.
3. People who have images turned off will still see the table.

Do you guys like it or do you want to switch back? I only changed the table.

I like the idea of a table much better than an image. But in my opinion, that page really doesn't need a graphic to explain the coordinates of the homescreen. In place of the table/image you could say, right after the first sentence:

"The TI-83/+/SE home screen is composed of eight rows (1 to 8 from top to bottom) by sixteen columns (1 to 16 from left to right); it is like a grid. This is the coordinate system used in the Output( command, with the row listed first. The home screen uses the large…"

I don't see any reason why a reader wouldn't understand that, or would need the graph to understand after reading the Output( command, especially since there is a more detailed page for the command which explains it well enough.

What do you think? Do we really need that graphic?

Now we have a HUGE gap between the text and table when using IE7! It does work in FFx though. I wish I could have the features of IE7 and the stability of FFx in one browser :(

That's not a bug – that's merely the table being too large to fit in its space, so it drops down to where there is enough room to display. Higher resolutions are fine with it, even in IE. I'll see about truncating most of the rows and columns while still having it make sense.

Actually, I think it might have been better before (sorry). I keep the sidebar of Favorites/RSS/History open, so it messed up the screen. I realize now that it was just my fault.
