Normally, I'm creative. I had the idea of putting a calculator on a calculator. Not useful, takes up space, is slow… yeah, I'm getting carried away. But anyways, I want an idea. Anything that one can make with no knowledge of matrices and little knowledge of strings. Thanks in advance! (also, can you tell me how to use the code-block thing? It will be handy later.)
Statistics programs, math programs, science-math programs are a good place to start. You shouldn't need matrices, and you don't need to know much about strings.
Thanks, but I'd prefer making a game of some sort, and none of the basic stuff like text adventures.
Go look at the program archives. There is a lot of games there, and maybe one of those will inspire you.
First I just want to say that strings and matrices make the best games possible! :) Once you learn them, you won't have any trouble coming up with an idea for programs. The youtube videos by Tim J Swann on Calculator Programming really helped me get comfortable with matrices. Soo yeah!
Anyway onto some program ideas! One thing I did early on when I didn't know matrices and stuff was make a simple infinite RPG game. It was entirely on the home screen.
So you start off at level one (levels are a variable that adds up infinitely.) and you have one of 6 weapons accessible through a pause menu. There's only one bad guy with a finite amount of health. He moves around randomly and if he lands on you, you lose a life. (I made it so you have 5 lives.) The thing is, you have to get close to him because the first weapon (a sword that swings around) is close range. You go into the next level once you beat the bad guy. Each weapon does something different and takes off a different amount of health off the bad guy. When he has less than or equal to zero health, you beat the level. I made it so that you unlock the rest of the weapons one at a time every couple of levels. (I haven't played it in a while, but I think I made it so you unlock the last weapon, double clawshot, at level 12.) After the bad guy is defeated his health is increased by some arithmetic sequence I don't remember lol. The game then continues on. You can swap weapons, you can never get lives back, and your enemy gets stronger every time.
It was a really fun game and as you may imagine based on the weapon name it was called prgmZELDA, a sort of infinite minigame. I suggest you try to make something like that. It was actually a lot more fun to play than I thought it would be initially because at some point you will lose! It got really hard even with longer ranged weapons like arrows and bombs. I think that the max level I ever reached was level 18, no joke! At that point the boss seemed immortal lol and a lot faster!
Anyway that's an idea that involves zero matrices, lists, or strings.
The game had two subprograms: the pause screen/weapon select and the weapons program that had the animations for weapons.
