where do you people get your irrational numbers?

where do you people find the "millions of millions" of digits of irrational numbers? right now, i cant seem to find the hexadecimal values of pi, except in one site, but if i copy it, i still have to format it and everything. what about sin 29º or something like that? is there an online calculator for that?

Most square roots are irrational. Here, Let's try this. This works for a few numbers.

Take a number, and take the square of it. Keep this number. Subtract one from it, and take the square root. If it is not irrational, take the number, and add one, and do the same. Keep adding, or subtracting, until you've added or subtracted the same number, that you originally used.

So if I take 3, squared, that is 9. So subtract one, that is 8. Say that was not irrational. I add one. If it is still rational, I subtract/add two this time. If it is still rational, I subtract/add 3.

youre kidding right?? of course square root of 2 is irrational. but that doesnt quite work so well if i want, say 2 million digits, in hex, or base 7, or base 31, and im too lazy/dont know how to program something to do it for me

Which is the whole point of the link. Just remember that those numbers are base 10, so you have to convert everything.

so does anyone have the first 1 million hex digits of pi? i know i asked this before, but i lost the file when my compute crashed, and cant find the post
does anyone know where to go (of course i know "the internet") to get large amounts of decimal places of irrational numbers?

Nobody really makes tables of the less-famous irrational numbers (like square roots) because they're easy enough to compute. So if you really want to get large amounts of digits, you'll need to ask a program like Mathematica or MATLAB to do it for you. Maybe your school has one of those on a library computer?

nope. despite going to a "science" school, which should include some math, the school is more concerned about history and foreign language. our software is usually for one or two specific classes, like photoshop for arts, and autocad for architecture and stuff like that. there are no science/math resources anywhere in the computers(other than calculator.exe) that i know of. the resources that the school provides are more for history, since more is written about history than math

yeah. sort of. i asked my precalc teacher about multiplying matrices in finite fields, and she never heard of such a thing before. then again, i cant really blame her. its not normally seen in highschool
