Hello everyone! I recently decided to get back in to my TI-83 Plus, as I haven't used it in well over 10 years since college. In high school I would do simple programs and have fun with it. However, as you can imagine, I pretty much forgot everything. Granted, I didn't know how to do a lot, but I had fun nonetheless. I started to read up on some of coding, as I can not find my handbook anymore. I have also been studying some code here and there, and have tried to make a game using warps. However, I am at roadblock.
Output (Z,Y," "
I know what you're saying…where is the rest of the code? I have been working on this a lot, adding and deleting things, and quite frankly, this is what I am back to after a LOT of frustration. My main focus is when the player goes to either warp, they go to the FRONT of the other. Example: If Z=5 and Y=2, then I would want the character to go to Z=5 and Y=14. And If Z=5 and Y=15 then I would want the character to go to Z=5 and Y=3.
My problems are, I have added Lbls, Gotos, If/Then, and everything I do fails. When I do my Lbls/Gotos, all it will do is add a character sprite to said designated area. However, the character is STILL at the warp…so they don't warp, just a sprite appears. I also added a While 1 (instead of Lbl 1/Goto 1), but neither one seems to really fix my problem. I also tried outputting just (Z,14," ") for example, but of course, that didn't output anything and the character was still in the warp. I'm not sure if I would need to put two different outputs for the character for a warp effect or what…or if I already tried and failed. I can't remember what all I've tried, but needless to say, I have done everything I can think of with no luck (again, I forgot how to do stuff and seriously need a refresher).
I have done code to where somehow the warps begin moving up and down WITH the player (but warps wouldn't move left or right). No matter what I've added, or how I've tried to tweak, the player will NEVER warp, just pop a character sprite up. I will say sprites rarely appear at the Y=3 area…they always appear at the Y=14 mark.
I apologize greatly for not having any previous code…like I said, after so much time and still at my roadblock, I just got frustrated and went back to the bare bones. I figured it would be easier for me to add stuff, rather than have a lot of code, and fix it (I have had 4 to 6 Lbls at one point…probably not what I want at this point considering where I am at). I also realize I need to add in code so when the character hits boundaries (<1 or >16) then I won't hit an error code. I have seen where all I would need is to add in <>Z and <>Y codes to fix this, which I am in the process of doing. I don't want the character wrapping around the screen, as the warps are needed to get to the other side.
Overall, in the end, I hope to have two to four warps, an enemy chasing, and possibly a limited use of warps (maybe even have to where character has to be in a warp AND press a key to warp). All that will come later, hopefully…right now, I just need help on getting the character TO warp. Any and all help will greatly be appreciated! Thanks again, and trust me, I'm trying to figure things out for myself, but when I need help, I WILL ask! I can't learn to code if I don't try first!
