Several people/groups have interfaced TI calculators to micro controllers and other peripherals before and the TI Connect and other linking software solutions also allow data to flow from a device to a calculator but as far as I can tell assembly code is used to control all of this. I am trying to write a simple universal program for a micro controller that will send and receive data from a TI calculator using BASIC's send and get commands.

This has already been done before (http://www.smallrobot.com/scimath.html) but I would like to learn how the serial link works for these commands. So if I give the following line of code:

Send {1}

What is the output of the calculator for this command and what changes for Send {1,2} or Send {555}? I do not know much more about the serial link than that it sends data in packets and what signals represent the binary "0" and "1".

check this out for packet information, and the send command. The first one describes what is sent, with the variables, and the second shows what is sent. Your best bet is to use lists or matrices to get what you want. You just have to program the micro controller on the device you are sending it to, to parse out the data it needs. For example, turning a list from the calc into a list that can be used on the micro controller.

The reason I say Lists, to send, is because since the transfer type of the TI is bulk, you could use the Lists like packets, telling the wheels to turn right or left, or whatever.

The only reason I would use matrices, is if you would like to have it navigate a maze, and have it send the data of the maze to the calculator to evaluate it. However, a better solution is to have it send lists specifying the location in the matrix on-calc, and have it also carry a value.

Since the transfer process, takes cooperation between the sending and the receiving device, you need to go use the guide I put above to learn about the transfers of variables.

OK I have the ability to read now and have received the first packet from my TI-89. My data is as follows (hex):

89 06 08 00 09 00 00 00 04 01 FF 00 0D 01

But 89 hex is the machine ID of a TI-92 (88 hex is for the 89/titanium and possibly 92+)

Why is this and what do I need to do to fix it?

I don't know, but it shouldn't matter in this case. As long as you can use that data packet on whatever you want to send it to, you don't have to worry about it.
