I had an epiphany yesterday: I thought of a way that time travel could work without paradox.
Reality is (would be) a constant stream. Every moment in time is followed by another, the exact same. This creates a timeline of time. Using a time machine, or whatever, we could jump back in history, but we would be jumping to an alternate reality, essentially the same in appearance. We couldn't alter our past because we can't conceptually move backwards in the time of time. So if you went back in time 25 years and killed yourself you wouldn't just disappear. You would have killed one of infinite copies of yourself.
I don't actually think this is the way it works, just an idea. So has this been spoken of before, or what?
And what do you guys think of it?
