im getting ready to search for colleges to apply to during the next school year, but i have a slight problem. i dont know where to start. everyone around me wants to stay as close as possible, so they only know about NY schools for the most part. I want to go to a school further away, but no one seems to know any school thats famous/good but not part of IVY league. i have a general idea about my major, computer security, but no one knows anything about comp security. they all want to be doctors, architects, and other "normal" jobs, so they talk to each other alot and eventually hear about good schools for their profession. so, hearsay is useless for me. i wouldnt be able to keep up a conversation about the schools should i be asked "why". i dont know which college's website to look at since i have no school in mind. searching through all the different sites would take forever, and all schools have some sort of computer science department
is there any place that has some sort of data, like US News, but more specific about individual majors. the college board website is like US News. all they have is a ranking of how schools are like as a whole. as much as that information is helpful, they only have the best med schools, law schools, etc.
i hope to have a start on crypto and stuff even as an undergraduate, or else i wouldnt really be asking
any useful suggestion is welcome
