For Mac:

Show how to using xCode

1. install xcode from the installation disc, under optional installs.
2. On your hard drive, go to developer/applications/utilities/usb prober.app
3. open the app!!!
4. Insert your Ti usb into the computer and the calculator, and click refresh.
5. Click the details button, so that a tray shows up at the bottom.
6. Make sure that your calculator is on, and then click on it.
7. if the details don't show up, click the refresh button.
8. Go through the list and look for the productID.
9. post the product ID, and the specific model of you calculator on this forum.

Show using my downloadable program

1. Click Here
2. Make sure your device is turned on and connected.
3. double click the file, after your mac automatically unzips the file, and lists the only file in the folder.
4. It will list some text, like "found device at: …" Copy that line, or those, lines that show up that look like that.
5. Paste them on this forum, with the specific model of TI calculator that you have.

For Windows

Show windows instructions

1. Insert device
2. go to Control Panel, by going to start, then control pannel
3. Double click "System"
4. click the "hardware" tab.
5. click the "Device Manager" button.
6. click on the plus symbol next to "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
7. Look for something like "TI Educational Handheld Device"
8. Right click that item, and select "Properties"
9. Clcik the "details" tab.
10. Click on the item that looks something like "USB\VID_ … "
11. press "ctrl + C"
12. go back to this forum, and press "ctrl + V"
13. then post your specific calculator model

Why?
I am making something that allows a programmer to connect to the calculator, and I need to know the product Id's to pair with the devices.

Which one(s) do I have now?
TI 83 = ?
TI 83 + =
TI 84 + = 57347
TI 84 + SE = 57352
IO USB cable = 57345

Please help me with this.

Even if you don't use a mac, or don't want to install xcode, how do you connect your calc to the computer?

As long as it is USB, it will work with the first version of the software. I am guessing that you are using windows.

The problem is for parallel and serial cables. I also need to know product ID for iokit.

Hey! I bought a TI-84 Plus today!

Problems arise: I use your program, graphmastur, to get the ID code. I first do it by connecting the TI-84 Plus directly to the computer. YOUR program returns 57347.

When I connect my TI-84 to my I/O USB cable (the same one I would use with the regular TI-83 Plus, see image on right), and then use your program, returned is the number 57345.

The SAME calculator returns two different numbers based on different connection mediums. I suspect that the I/O USB cable ALWAYS returns the number 57345.

Congrats on the ti-84!!! What is returned is the product id. I would assume regular 84 + and not 84 + se?
Yes, the cable still has it's own productID.
Right now, I am working on a receiving bytes with having it stall. It is really weird. I check to see if the device is connected, and it tells me it is, I see if the pipe is stalled, and it is. I try to clear the stall, and it tells Me I have no device! Something tells me I am going to have to take a look at those header files instead of just the documentation.

Indeed, it's not a SE. Apparently those ones never broke through the Australian Retail market; albeit, available online.

yeah, that means I can add two to my list!
EDIT: Or just one, cause you already edited it.
EDIT2: Well, because of the cable you used, I shall have to take 83 + off. So Technically I added Just one, which is the 84 +. However, any calcs that use that cable, will work.

maybe you can talk to brandonw. he should know something. apparently he was making some sort of calc to flash drive converter app called "periph8x" but he never finished it

I asked him, for a way to test what bytes were being received by the calculator, and he said that he did not have the time, but to use the remote8x source to do it myself. I don't know enough asm!!! Here, I will post an update of my progress on the other thread. here.

I have made changes to the original post for windows instructions. I also added another option for the mac users that did not want to install xCode. Thank you for your help, anyone who will help.
