This saves the string "Hello World" into a string:
This saves the values of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 as elements in a list:
This saves a table of values, basically several lists side by side, into a matrix/array.
While this doesn't have as much to do with the symbol, I'll explain anyway: there are restrictions. Unlike other languages, you can't store strings into lists or matrices, as well as user variables. You also can't store a number directly into a string.
