TI 89 Titanium programming

Hello I’m new to this site.

I am comfortable using visual basic programming on a PC, and am looking for the best programmable calculator using basic, with local variables, user defined variable names, (not just single letters) and can create both subs and functions

Reading instructions that are available on the web, the best calculator I can find is the TI 89 Titanium, and have some questions

Writing programs on a PC then transferring these to the calculator
Can I have a brief explanation how is this done?

Calculator spread sheet
I notice that the calculator includes a spreadsheet. Is there a way to cut and paste Excel cells from PC to the calculator spread sheet?

Flash Rom
Is this like a built in memory card which keeps all data like programmes safe if the batteries fail. I can’t quite understand this as the calculator also has a small back up battery.

Thanks in advance
Jeff

The best way to write programs on the PC for transfer would be TI-GraphLink since the PC version of TI-Connect doesn't allow writing or editing programs. The Mac version of TI-Connect does, though if you use that machine.

There's an app to transfer Excel cells to the calc but i don't know if it's free or not.

The calculator has two kinds of memory - Flash and RAM. The Flash memory doesn't need power to maintain its contents but RAM does and the clock needs continuous power so you need the back-up battery.

Thanks for the reply Tom

I will check when I get the calculator to make sure I get the TI-GraphLink

I will look into the the transfering of Excel cells

I take it that if I wirte a program on the calculator I can save it to the Flash and it would be safe, no matter if all batteries are removed or fail

That's for the 83/84 family.

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;" ~ 1 Peter 3:15
