My TI-83 Plus: the lists under Stat Edit begin with L2 (and go to L6). There is no L1. Which hasn't previously been a problem, as I can enter data into L2, etc. But now I'm trying to do simple linear regression, which (according to instructions in stat book for using TI), requires x-data in L1, y-data in L2. But I thought it would read data from the first two lists with data, so whether they were L1, L2, or whatever, should not matter. Apparently not. I can't get it to do simple lin regression, apparently because it's looking for data in L1, but there is no L1! Is there a way to get it to look in L2 and L3?

Or, what happened to my L1, and how do I get it back?

Run the SetUpEditor command in the STAT menu. This will restore L1.

There is a way to do regression with L₂ and L₃ (or any lists you want). Execute the LinReg(ax+b) command with these arguments:

LinReg(ax+b) L₂,L₃

This will calculate the regression with L₂ as the XList and L₃ as the YList.
The general arguments are:

LineReg(ax+b) XList,YList,FreqList,Func

XList = X values
YList = Y Values
FreqList = Frequency of (X,Y) pairs (optional)
Func = Function in Y= where the Linear Regression equation will be graphed (optional)

The easiest way is just to use SetUpEditor

But as kg583 said, you can use any two lists (including custom lists) with LinReg, QuadReg, 2-Var stats, and the others like that. You can also do the same with 1-Var says where the first list is your table of values and the second list is a list of the frequencies
