I need some help, the page covering releases isn't detailed enough.

Hi there,

A couple of months ago, I uploaded a game to the program archives. Unlike other games' pages I see, my game's page doesn't have a fancy layout with for example a white rectangle with all the info. I also haven't seen its gif appear on the main page, and I was wondering how those gifs are chosen: do I need to do something special for it to be able to get chosen, or is uploading it to the program archives and being lucky the only way?

I was also wondering if I can see the downloads of my game anywhere. It would be really nice for me to know how many times my program was downloaded.

Before anyone tells me to check the wikipage on releasing programs, I did that. It doesn't cover my problem.

No, TIBD does not feature a download counter. And I'm pretty sure the gifs on the main page are chosen, based on quality, but I could be wrong. Luck has nothing to do with it though.

Some programs that are particularly good examples of TI-Basic are featured and have their own page in the Showcases of TI-Basic section. If you are speaking of The Tower of Hanoi program, it has a good appearance, but it could still be significantly optimized. Personally, I would like it if authors could link the download to ticalc.org so that all downloads would be counted in one place. Maybe we can eventually add some sort of download counter, but there is a lot to do now.

I was planning on releasing an update for The Tower of Hanoi. Do I just create a new page?

I'm pretty sure there is a way to update it on the home page but I'm not sure how. Sorry!:(

No. Go to the bottom of the page, and click the white box where it says "Edit". From there you can update the entire page, including the picture and the file if you want to change those too, and the category.

And how do I notify people on the wiki that I pushed out an update?

You can post to the thread attached to your page. I have been looking at things a bit, and it seems that the files are stored at wdfiles.com, which makes the downloads counting even more difficult.

Also, some guest user posted something that doesn't have anything to do with my program as a comment, using the words "anyone else having trouble", and to some it might seem like he's saying my program doesn't work. I can't delete his message nor its replies, since I'm not an admin or moderator. Should I maybe use that as a reason to create a new page for my program?

Shouldn't it be possible to have a download counter for each program, and increment the value whenever a user clicks the download link?

I would guess that it needs an admin who has access to the server code. It sounds possible, but I don't know for sure.

I think the File module has a download counter built in, but because the files are now hosted externally it is not possible to use this method. It may be possible to count the number of clicks for the download links.

@Mewcancraft: You should update the page. I can look into what he is talking about and possible delete/move the post later. It's really up to you though. Any ratings you currently have will be reset by creating a new page.

Lol, I only noticed just now that you're a moderator. *Facepalms*

Anyway, I would be pleased if you could remove the comments on my Tower of Hanoi page. They don't have anything to do with my program whatsoever, because the comments talk about strings, which my game doesn't have to do anything with.

I'm also going to move the text on the current page to a readme, since the majority of all downloadable programs are in a .zip file along with their readme.
