So I was wondering when you create a game, is there a certain formula you have to follow in terms of what are coded when, or does it depend on the game?

It really depends on what you are trying to do, but this is my typical approach:

1) Initialize all variables that are needed
2) User Inputs / Menus
3) Main Loop and Win/Loss Condition
4) Movement Code, if needed
5) Other Keypress Detections
6) Game Logic
7) Win/Loss Logic
