Hello all. New to the forum and found some good starters. I'm in an EE class and want to develop some programs for some of the common calculations. I'm new to the TI programming interface but have a base knowledge of C programming.

I found a thread that discussed this same topic (t-1188128) but I don't know anything about programming for the TI. One of the comments suggested a string for taking in multiple values which would be ideal.

Some help with quickly picking up the syntax on the TI would be appreciated. I plan to write more programs after this one so with these basics I should be able to develop with more ease.

Welcome to the TI-Basic Developer, scotdani!

I am assuming that you are using an Nspire model calculator since you posted under the Nspire section. Unfortunately, there is not much documentation for the Nspire variant of TI-Basic, even here (not yet anyway; hopefully we can change that soon!). Maybe someone like Trenly could answer your question better. You could also check the Resources page to see if something there can help you out.

I'm sorry I don't have an Nspire, but here is some 84 Basic code. You might be able to adapt.

It assumes there are only parallel resistances here or you've already added up the series parts on each wire. You can use Wabbitemu to try it out.

Input "Resistor Count=",N
0→S
For(X,1,N)
Input "Rn=",A
1/A+S→S
End
1/S→S
Disp S

With comments:

Input "Resistor Count=",N // Asks for the number of resistors in parallel
0→S                       // Initialize summation variable
For(X,1,N)                // For loop setting X to 1, and incrementing to the number of resistors
Input "Rn=",A             // Asks for resistor values
1/A+S→S                   // Add reciprocals of resistance values together
End                       // Exit for loop
1/S→S                     // Store sum of reciprocals to the sum
Disp S                    // Print parallel resistance on screen
