I was making a program the other day, and ran into a lot of difficulies. I was thingking how awsome it would be if we all got together and made either an ASM or Basic program that made another program using blocks that the user selects.

The code could look like this

menu("Select Pupose","game",A)
Lbl A
//Somehow Write a code to put a game loop into a new program

Well…. I see no practical reason for this. Why couldn't you just write your own new program? And creating a copy of a game would just take up more space.

But if you were to make it you would need assembly so you could use a code like this to create a program before editing it:

Input "Name:", Str1
"Str1":Asm(CREATE

Where Create does something like:

//input is "[name]":Asm(CREATE
//create a new program with name[Name]
//make sure program is unprotected so we can edit

Then you would need assembly to actually insert blocks of code.

Usualy when I program i create multiple programs and then create a "backbone" program that brings all the programs together

For Example

PRGM:A
Repeat K
getkey→K
End

and

PRGM:B
Disp K

and finally

PRGM:Backbne
prgmA
prgmB

So I was thinking that it would have been easeyer to do it that way

Perhaps…. One thing that I'm not quite understanding is what "blocks" you would want to use? I see what you are saying by making chain programs, but that takes up a lot of space. It might be easier to figure out Asm to create, write, execute, then delete a program. I'm afraid speed and size are both major issues here.

It might also be nice to have a program that allows you to edit protected programs, then locks them again when you are done.

Everything in your post can be done by an application called DoorsCS7 (for monochrome calculators) or DoorsCSE8 (for the TI-84+CSE). Celtic is included in both of them which will allow a program to create, modify, or delete AppVars or programs. You can also edit and run archived programs from this application. As a result, all of my programs are always archived. Check out dcs.cemetech.net for more information and download links.

Even though DoorsCS7 and DoorsCSE8 are great applications, I dont think it does what the OP has in mind.

If this program were written in basic, it would probably be best to make each block into a string. The program puts the strings (blocks) together and returns the program as a string which the user can recall into a new program.

In the end it would be a very complex program to make very simple programs, so not very useful, but could be an interesting project.

I use DCSE 8.0 to organize the programs that I then make into chains and want to know if I can make a program that will allow me to select the programs from a menu and use them to make the program… If that makes sense.

By the way, How do you utilize the Appvars using DCSE?

I was actually not the author. I know dcs7 can do some of these things. As such, I see no practical use for "block programming", especially when you can just write a new program, provided you are adept enough

Ti basic is easy to use without block prpgramming. It would just make it hard, since you would have to drag the blocks with only a four directional keypad.
