I agree; I always go straight to the home page, and look at the "recent news" and "forum activity". I just thought the side-navigator was a tad too long, and that people are less likely to read the other information there.

I hate to picky, but it doesn't look good.

If you send a color picture to the calculator, the color will convert to the appropriate B&W dithering.

I found this out by sending a picture with a red block, a green block, and a blue block. It converted correctly to black and white. Do you think this would be something to add to the Did you know thing?

Note to Members: When you add some new content to the wiki, please try to remember to update the news so that it is current. All edits to the "Recent News" list must be made through the news page.

I was wondering, do we need to have messages addressing members on the front page? Does it look tacky to the general public who are not members?

And also, what sort of new content are we talking about? Do we mean things like typo fixes, or fixing routine glitches? Or do we mean adding new pages, deleting old pages, adding sections to pages?

With some occasional exceptions, any site news related to both sections of the site will just be mentioned here, instead of on both home pages. This decision was primarily made because it would be a considerable amount of work to have to keep both home pages updated simultaneously.

This was the case, I believe, before the "include solution" I integrated, and is not so much the case now. But I figured we should discuss it just to make sure (yes I KNOW this is a wiki and that we can do what we want, but I think there is some sort of appeal in working together to make decisions).

It is no longer difficult to put news on both sections of the site. That is, it is no longer the four step process it used to be, only being a two step process. It seems to me that it is uncommon to have news which applies to both portals of the site, and so the extra step process is no a real hassle (because it never really happens). Well, there has been lately — but really, how often does the stuff that we've all just been doing actually happen?

I reckon that there is not going to be any "global news" for a long time. Therefore, we should change the above message into this:

It really means a lot to me; as I have used this site as a resource so many times, it great to know that I have actually been able to give something back to the site.

Also because I don't get thanked for very often and it is a really nice feeling to be appreciated, AND being descibed as "awesome" is a great compliment!

I have to say, it was really really fun to be working as a team, where each of us were all adding our own bit to further the site, AT THE SAME TIME… it just goes to show how much further team-work will take you. This was a lot of fun to do.

I've been meaning to ask you burr, what is your display picture of? For some reason it reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie when Earth is about to be blown up.

We seemed to have upgraded this part of the site. I will just go add that to the news list.

But if you relate to the way I did it for recent posts, you could have it so that each article of the DYK is like one line, and you can make it display the most recent 3 DYKs. For the FA, you could have a page with previous FAs, and like suggested, just display the first one on that page.

Is that what you mean?

Well, you can look at the source and do it for the DYK and the FA, I'll go do it for the 68k Recent News ;)

Here's a hint: If the edit makes life easier for people, it's good. As long as they know what to do. So, thanks, that makes it a lot easier.

Yes? No? Maybe?

There is a problem with this method, and that is that on the actual "old news" page, some ugly codes, which I implemented to make this whole function work, are actually displayed. These codes are not displayed when including the page, just when viewing the actual page. If this doesn't make sense, please go to the "old news" page and then look at the start page to understand.

So, is this sacrifice worth the achievement, and does everybody approve?

Also, do we like the idea of it being on an "old news" page, or would we rather an "all news" page, in light of my recent change? And if people like the idea, do you want me to implement it onto the 68k portal of this site?
