Graph Screen Graphics Contest

Posts in the discussion thread "Graph Screen Graphics Contest" - This really doesn't belong in the Program Challenges section, as it isn't really a test of programming skill, but there was no better place for it. It shouldn't just be in Graphic Design, either, as it's a contest.

Alright, folks! That is the end. No more entries after this point.

qwerty_55 demonstrated an incredible attention to detail in QWERTYPIC.XI. It's a very large and detailed picture but is rather geometrically basic relying a lot on right angles. It is still very
impressive for a calculator creation and for not having known pen existed prior to creating it.

brt93yoda's entry, PIC0.XI, was a depiction of communist glory. It is an image of the hammer and sickle with the letters "CCCP" in block lettering to the side. It is rather impressive that he created round objects and slanted objects by hand maintaining a somewhat realistic shape and proportion. All in all, it's kind of simple even if it does demonstrate an artistic flare for pixel arrangement.

Weregoose's entry Pic1.xi is stunning. I encourage all to look at it. It is your basic bowl of fruit with the light coming in from a single light source of to the side. Basic for paint or pencil, but try doing it in pixels! He creates shading through pixel density and all of the shading is proportional, correctly orientated and detailed. The shapes in the picture are almost flawlessly drawn and are almost all rounded. Each object in the picture is proportional. You can't quite tell what type of fruit it is in the bowl, but it doent's really matter. This is a very impressive picture and the quality of work I was hoping to see.

Thank you to our three contestants. Considering the entries above I declare Weregoose the winner. The prize will be a badge. Someone, however, has to tell me how to award these, as nobody has thus far. If it were possible, I would also Gallery page to be created where individuals' pictures can be entered and displayed. The winner of this and any future contests could be noted there as well. Can a administrator please contact me to discuss these ides?

Okay, let's see. How to attach files… There we go. Qwertypic took a little while to draw. I didn't even know there was a pen function in the calculator.

Y'know, I considered that but I wasn't sure if I had the ability to assign badges. I didn't want to put a badge as an incentive if I couldn't deliver.

Have you seen the profile pages? On mine, you could see I was given an award for winning one of the challenges. If you really want a prize, then you should probably use badges.

Ha. Yeah. We could create a section for Brownie Points. People could periodically accumulate BP's and when they got to a certain amount of points some other honor would be conferred upon them. Brownie points could be awarded by any member to any other member if sufficient cause is presented. I like that idea. I might do that.

Would you guys go in for that? It's kind of a way for some of the less prominent members of the site to be acknowledged.

I have to admit, though, I don't really know what the award would be. I should talk to an administrator or something about that. I'm not sure it could be counted in the contest winners section because it's not really a programming contest, there appears to be very little interest and I didn't get any sort of authorization to do this.

Well, I'm not seeing much interest. If nobody cares to join, brt93yoda will be the undisputed winner.
All entries will be due by 6-24-10. To enter, upload your drawing to the forum attachments. Unless there's any objection, I will judge.

This is a contest for any TI-83/84 user. Essentially, try to create as detailed and interesting a picture as you can using only the pen command on the graphscreen. The Axes, Expression and all other stuff should be turned off (this includes functions). I will judge them unless anybody objects. Multiple entries are allowed from each person. Realism especially will be appreciated as it is very difficult to convey in monochromatic pixels. Thank you. Enjoy!
