here's, my way of doing it without dim()

:string_l(s) :Func :local c :1→c :while mid(s,c,1)≠"" :c+1→c :EndWhile :Return c-1

dont feel ashamed and dont quit! ive done this many time before on the 83/84 calcs. all this does is it helps you learn. please, post some more of you functions :D

oh and btw, the fact that you can code something that does the same thing as a built in operation is pretty amazing none the less.

As the calculator gets more and more functions the more likely we are to accidentally rewrite functionality I've done it a number of times. of course I mainly am coding on the n-spire and that thing has like 2000 functions or something crazy like that with operators to do all manor of crazy things and whats worse most take all type often having different behaviors for each. trust me and the people here you will rewrite functionality and you will feel stupid when someone tells you the OS already does it for you.

Yeah don't be ashamed! Thats what we're here for! Would you believe that to extract elements from a list, I used the prod() function? At some point or another we all write our own functions that the TiOS has already done for us :)

There's no reason to quit- If you are too ashamed, then you will get better. =) Good luck with your code!
(It took me over 1.5 years before I used dim() for the first time.)

The following program finds the length of the given string.

Function #2: string_l(any string)
Purpose: See the first line of this post.
Folder: The s folder. (s stands for string)
Note: I find this program useful. Please simplify any algorithms with replying posts.

:string_l(s) :Func :© finds the string length :Local i,ii © loop variables :Local new_s © the string that will be constantly modified :Local spacenum © number of spaces :s→new_s :0→spacenum : :1→ii :For i,1,ii,1 : inString(s," ",i)»i : If i≠0 Then : spacenum+1»spacenum : i+1→ii : Else : Exit : EndIf :EndFor : :1→ii :For i,1,ii,1 : If right(new_s,1)≠" " Then : shift(s,-i)→new_s : Else : If spacenum≥1 Then : spacenum-1→spacenum : shift(s,-i)→new_s : Else : Exit : Endif : Endif : ii+1→ii :EndFor : :Return i-1 :EndFunc

Nice getkey loop, could be the foundation for many games/programs

(although I think asking people to give you credit for this function is a bit silly :P it's going to be in almost every single basic game in one shape or another)

I don't have any programs to post yet, though i do have many functions.

Function #1: get_char()
Purpose: Finds the numeric value of a keystroke (or whatever)
Notes: I would keep this program archived in my calculator's main folder.

:get_char() :Func :© instructions--right after this program starts running, :© press the key that you want to find the value of : :Local KeyPrssd :0→KeyPrssd : :While KeyPrssd=0 :getKey()→KeyPrssd :EndWhile : :Return KeyPrssd :EndFunc
