The approx(expr) function forces a decimal value. The format will match the decimal-display settings for the current document unless you first call setmode(1,n), for n in [1,26], to specify something different. Effects of specific values of n correspond to different fix/float modes and are enumerated in the official reference guide.

I don't have my calc on me, but look for a >Dec command, or multiply by 1.0 (make sure to include the decimal). Alternatively, there might even be a float() function.
