Hello,

I wanted to upload a program of mine to the archives, and it says that a download is required. I was looking for a converter, but I couldn't find one that worked. I was wondering if any of you have one that you use to convert files to upload them.

Thanks,

CalcNerd

I am doing long division on a polynomial fraction for a power series and I can't figure out how to do it on a Ti nspire.
I'm not sure if there is even a way to change this, but whenever you search something in the search bar at the top right, it always shows 68k pages first. I think it would be more beneficial if the 83/84+ basic pages came up first, as most people who use this site are looking for those results.

A New Theme

With the rise in popularity of the TI 84+ CE, it seems more and more people are designing programs for the color calculator these days. Of course, the monochrome calculators are still very important and used by many, but I was thinking that perhaps we can implement some new colors on the site that reflects the change from monochrome to color.

Take a look at TI-83 Basic Home - the main color is grey with a small hint of blue grey at the top.
68k TI-Basic Home - a more olive color, but still very monochrome-looking.
TI-Nspire Home - Brown.

These are great, and the color palettes reflect the calculator those pages were made for. But I don't see one that reflects the TI-84+ CE. Now, I know that the CE uses almost all of the same commands as TI-83 Basic, and there doesn't really need to be another Home for the color calculators, but it would be nice to see more colors added to the palette.

Take this suggestion for a grain of salt; it's not important, functionally, but it would be nice.

You may have noticed that all of the screenshots displayed on the home page are for BW/grayscale calculators. I would like to add several newer screenshots of programs for color calculators, such as the TI-84+CE or the Nspire CX.

The programs must be written in TI-Basic or hybrid basic (i.e. not solely assembly or C). If you know of a particularly worthy program, please nominate it in this thread, and explain why you think this is a good example of the skills fostered at TI-Basic Developer.

This is my opinion and feedback. Please don't say "stop complaining" without actual feedback or reasoning.
If possible, I recommend a redoing of the compatibility section in the submit program form.
There are many problems I found, some at the fault of the programmer, and some for the website. (No offence.)
Here is a list of some issues I found (mostly applies to games, not math programs):

Ti-83/+ only programs have to be listed as ti83/84/se, even though it runs too fast on those later machines to be usable.

People who list ti84 programs as ti-83 compatible, even though it runs too slow to be usable.

Some programs I found were "Ti-83 compatible" but have ti-84 only commands. They don't or barely work at all. (Even if you don't use emulators, this is a very obvious issue)

As someone with only a TI-83+, these can be frustrating.

I recommend that:

The site adds options for each calculator group.

Programmers test their programs for usability before saying it's backwards or forwards compatible. If an obvious lie is found, then they should change the form. (If you don't want to use emulated ROMs, then at least assume that there could be a speed issue)

If you program on an 83+, or a regular 84+, add an option (if possible) to change a loop variable or something for later calcs that slow down the program enough to be playable.

Yesterday, I was seeing looking at the template for a command page and thought that this could be transformed into List Pages for easier editing. There are some pro's and cons about this, so I'll list them.

Show Command Form Image

Hide Image

Command creation in action

PROS

Easier to use and cleaner layout

Command pages will now be listed easily with the use of the ListPages module (rather than typing and organizing every single page)

Easier for new people to use (some may create a command page without knowing there is a template, this will allow them to create the command template and have everything organized for them).

CONS

Limited to what the form has (some commands may have an applicable Formula section, but many others won't).

Much work to replace the commands

Limited and hard to workaround structure (for example, it may rarely be hard to properly format the columns, otherwise this shouldn't be a problem).

I haven't migrated the command pages to this format, mainly because I want to hear your opinions. Improvements, agreements, disagreements? Leave a post so I know if this is a good idea!

:)

So I got to thinking about all the times we've banned Thel Vadamee/etc., and all the jokes, accusations, and sarcasm that we've been throwing around in relation to the matter. I'm not sure that the way we (including myself, particularly today) have handled re-banning Thel Vadamee/etc. reflects well on the site, as a newbie might get the impression that we are a little on the demeaning side. To be clear, I am not saying we should un-ban TI-Basic Dude, or that we shouldn't ban any of his future accounts. We absolutely should stick to the decision to ban him. I just think we could do it (the right words escape me at the moment) more discreetly. I don't want one of us to accuse a new member of being Thel Vadamee, and then it turns out that he/she isn't. So, I would just say, let's be a little more cautious before we determine that a new account belongs to Thel Vadamee/etc.

I think this site would be better and have less opportunity for rule breaking if we redirected new users towards a sort of "Welcome" tutorial, where it would have almost the same layout of the Basic Starter kit. It would consist of the preparation kit (starting at "Why TI Basic?") then ending with the site rules. Is anybody thinking that this would be beneficial?

I have just finished the first version of a program I wrote for my TI-84+ CE. I was in the process of uploading it when I clicked on the compatibility drop down and saw that there was no option for TI-84+ CE, there was only an option for TI-84+ C. I was not sure if I was supposed to pick this so I wanted to ask here to be safe.
