As a lot of you have noticed, you have probably realized that this website hasn't been active in quite some time. Now that I can't say the same for every user on here, but if you're wondering why nobody really discusses anything (at least users who have been on here for a long time) have moved on and taken their chapters in their life and focus on more important things.

You could go back less than 10 years ago and see that the activity was a lot higher than it is now. It's been quite a while since then, and this website has grown. So have it's users. It's always amazing to have new members register and join the Wiki to ask questions, submit programs for the archives, post answers to problems. I have watched this community grow and get where it is today, and it's astounding of the achievements that it's made.

But unfortunately just like everything in life, not everything is made to last. As of the last few years, Wikidot has gone downhill for a while and it's not what it used to be. Take searching the wiki or uploading programs to the archive for example, there are notorious problems and have been there for years. Many people have messaged the team about it being fixed, to no avail. In addition to that, wikidot is growing insecure since it wants users to cough up money to use HTTPS protocols to use their website, when majority of places nowadays use that for free.

While it isn't necessarily wrong to continue using this website as a place for asking questions for problems, I would recommend visiting Cemetech. It has an active community and is maintained more than Ti-Basic Developer and you would definitely see a decrease in time to get responses to your comments and posts then you would here.

Don't let this discourage you from posting here, but I've noticed some of you have posted questions awaiting answers and unfortunately I don't think those questions will ever be answered. I'm not saying I'm going to go around to every question out there and answer them right now, but I'm just saying that you would probably have a better experience with Cemetech. Everybody is absolutely amazing over there, and it's a definitely fun community to dip your toes in and collaborate with other members there and see what it has to offer.

I also want to point out that this website isn't going down anytime soon as far as I know, but what I do know is that Wikidot is slowly moving to another platform, I'm not sure when and I also don't know how it will affect this wiki here. I'm not going anywhere as there is no reason to, but I just wanted to post this because I believe it would provide a better alternative for new users to communicate and reach out to the calculator dev community regarding your questions and programs.

Well I'm kind of late to the party to say this and have the courage to admit this, but I'm the same person as TI-Basic Dude, GatoradeDC, BioHazard1282, and other relative usernames that relate to those I've mentioned. It's been quite a few years since that drama has happened, I've grown as a person since then and I take full responsibility of my actions that I have done long ago and I sincerely apologize to the community here for what I've done, I apologize for evading bans and creating alternative accounts to communicate on this platform when I wasn't wanted here. I recognize my actions and I understand that they have been extremely disruptive and upsetting for certain users. During that time I haven't obtained full maturity during those years as I was an early-mid middle school/junior high. I promise nothing like that will happen again, I'm not sure if any of you are active just see this message, but I just want to put this out there I'm sorry for what I did and I hope that there aren't any hard feelings. All of you have tolerated me for a long time and I still regret pushing you to your limits with my behavior. Thank you for your time and your volunteering to keep this community healthy and active, you all have put in countless hours of work to maintain TI-Basic Developer to what it is today, and for that I am greatful as I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for you.

As for them administrators of this website, I have done my best to go over the rules to make sure that this post doesn't break any of them. If any of you have questions, feel free to message me here or send me a private message.

TI-Basic Developer was inadvertently taken hostage by Wikidot.com, but that's been reversed now.

Dear TI‑Basic Developer Community,

It came to my attention today that the TI‑Basic Developer website was inadvertently taken hostage by Wikidot.com. I don't frequent this site so much any more, so I wasn't aware it had happened. It appears that the site may have become unavailable sometime between the 21st of April 2023 through until today (8th of May 2023).

What happened?

Years ago, one of the admins (it may have been me?) turned on SSL (Secure Socket Layer, basically "httpS://" for this site. This is the standard of the internet these days, after all. The host server, Wikidot.com, provides this https function for "Pro+" account admins, only. But for quite some time now, none of the admins have been Pro+ members, thereby TI‑Basic Developer hasn't technically been entitled to the httpS feature. This wasn't a problem, though, because the site still worked. Furthermore, it could fall-back to http mode if it failed.

However, within the past few weeks, it seems that any Wikidot.com sites with httpS enabled and without Pro+ accounts were simply "locked out" until the admin changed the site security settings to disable SSL. Here's the catch: Even if you go to the site's administrative controls and try to disable SSL, it has a message:

So, in order to rollback the TI‑Basic Developer site to the free http (without the S) configuration, we would have to pay an exorbitant price for the Pro+ account upgrade (not even the "Pro" accounts have SSL). This is what I mean, when I say that the TI‑Basic Developer website was inadvertently taken hostage by Wikidot.com. Although, perhaps this isn't inadvertent at all… I'm suspicious it was intentional design.

Anyway, with a bit of HTML code injection and a bit of luck, I was indeed able to rollback the site to the free, http configuration.

Unfortunately, this means your connections to the site aren't encrypted, and this is a privacy risk if your computer or device is compromised with some sort of man-in-the-middle spyware. As such, take appropriate cautions. But at least the site is back online, albeit compromised.

It is worth mentioning, though, that perhaps the TI‑Basic Developer site and community should be migrated to a more stable platform, since the host server Wikidot.com appears to be approaching its end-of-life.

Although I do not accept responsibility for the downtime, I hope the community will be understanding with this transparent explanation, and the measures taken to correct it.

Welcome back, and happy coding!

Recently, I have had questions about posting in threads, specifically ones that are 2+ months old. Now, this isn't usually a big deal, but it's getting a bit cumbersome to consistently tell new users the same thing. Everyone here would appreciate it if you could make new threads in their appropriate category, and reference the old thread by pasting the link or saying you are referencing the old thread.

As stated in the Code of Conduct, please refrain from posting in threads (as of this month) that were created before November. This makes more past and current threads clean and easier to read. If other users are doing it, that doesn't mean you can.

I do not mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but please follow the guidelines so it will make life easier for the site Moderators and Administrators. Have a good day! :)

TI discontinues Assembly support for the TI-84 Plus CE!

Games have been a huge impact on gamers (even calculator ones) for many years. As far as I know, there are more TI gamers than Casio or HP gamers. Amazing games have been manufactured for these graphing calculators, such as the TI-83 and the TI-84 Plus CE. The TI-84 Plus CE is the newest edition to the TI-84 family since 2015. Over time, the operating systems and games have included more useful and exciting features providing more interest in people across the globe. These games include Oriam, Portal Returns, Flow CE, and many others. Most of these games run off a variety of languages of C, ICE, or ez80 assembly. These three languages are more difficult to program than TI-BASIC, a built-in programming language that is easy to learn. Assembly games have been increasingly popular since the last decade, and soon the popularity will die down, The main reason as to why is TI's recent decision, to discontinue assembly support on the TI-84 Plus CE forever. A teacher in the mid-east discovered a bug in the Operating System 5.4 that opens new opertunities for students to cheat on exams, TI took this into account and took the time to decide to prevent future exam issues, to remove assembly altogether. With this in action, many assembly games will no longer continue to function, None of them are executible. They cannot be compiled nor can they be unsquished, The commands Asm(, Asm84CEPrgm, and AsmComp( still exist, but they no longer function. Any attempt to use these commands will result with a INVALID error. Some believe that with this in mind, that instead of 5.6 reducing the risks of exam security issues, that the issues will be a greater problem. TI implemented in 5.6 to prevent downgrades. Once you upgrade, you cannot go back. So before you upgrade, think very carefully before you do so.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you frustrated about this decision or are you glad?

You have control on your calculator, TI does not. You decide on what you should do!

As some people may have noticed, ever since the CE and CSE came out the 83/84+ Programming forum has housed questions for all models of calculator which are not in the 68k or Nspire series. This often could lead to confusion, as there are differences between the color and monochrome models. I have decided to create a new category within the forums here, so that each class of calculator has its own sub-forum. Not only will this eliminate confusion, but it will also help those looking for help or providing answers a dedicated place for their specialty.

Along with this, some other things have been cleaned up around the forums. Threads in the announcements category which were not truly announcements were moved to their appropriate forum, and most of the outdated or irrelevant announcements have been hidden. The politics category has also been removed due to it not being used, and the tendency of politics to become disrespectful. These sorts of threads can still be created in General Discussion, so long as everyone remains respectful and follows the rules. The names and descriptions of some categories were also updated to be more clear, but remained otherwise unchanged.

Hello TIBD members!

You might have noticed that I have been inactive for some time, lurking in and out about the forums. Nonetheless, I have been working on some things which some of the staff have been helping me with. Let's begin!

bDiscuss - TIBD Discussion Service

Some of you might remember last year when we had a chatbox on the side of the forum home. This had to be removed due to security and impersonation issues. About three month ago, I decided to utilize Firebase, a Google product designed for realtime apps and similar things. The result was bDiscuss, a 'buffed' version of the previous chatbox. This is more secure, flexible, and user friendly (I hope!), and I had a lot of fun making this. _iPhoenix_ on Cemetech (also known as iPhoenixOnTIBD helped me a lot with security issues and design of the service, so thanks to him! Be sure to check out his awesome projects over on Github as well.

You can also find the chat on the TIBD here.

Offline Command Reference

This is another side project I've been working on. A recent post outlined that it would be useful if there was an offline command reference. With that, I started to convert all the pages to offline html, which is actually quite simple! Here's a sample screenshot.
I have to recreate the CSS file that I used to format the page, then I'll make another post later in this thread on how to create pages.

If you find any bug or improvements that can be made, feel free to send me a PM or make a post in this thread!

Every member of the site who has visited in the past couple of months can see that the forums occasionally have posts that classify as spam or violate the Code of Conduct. While that's bad, it doesn't help when other members, instead of following the protocol of flagging the user as abusive, removing posts and occasionally threads, they reply to these posts and complicate the matter by attacking the user, which in turn results in, essentially, more spam.

To the people who have made matters worse (including myself at times):
We need to quit engaging in a debate/making jokes/attacking the user and start simply flagging the user as abusive and deleting spam posts. If someone consistently breaks the rules, then they should expect to be banned.

To spammers/abusive users:
You need to quit making spam posts and violating the code of conduct. For convenience, I copied the Forum Rules, and pasted them below:

Forum Rules

Always be respectful of other posters, including their opinions, values, point-of-view, etc.
Always try to work with other posters instead of against them; this is a community and we are all here to help.
Don't post or request anything illegal or illicit, including ROMs, music, movies, porn, etc.
No cursing, spamming, or flaming.
Don't advertise your programs or websites, unless they are relevant and have some unique value to them.
Don't reply to old threads (last post is more than three months old); start a new thread instead.
Place threads in the appropriate category; Additionally, if a thread starts to go off-topic please start a new one.
Don't try to pass off someone else's work as your own — give credit to the author whenever possible.

Code Of Conduct

Always try to be respectful of other contributors, including their opinions, values, point-of-view, etc. This means no personal attacks, profanity, and especially no threatening or harassing behavior.
Don't advertise your programs or websites, unless they are TI-Basic related and have some unique value to them. This wiki is not a catch-all for your programs and websites; there are other websites available for that purpose, so use them instead.
Be kind to new contributors, since they are still learning the ropes and figuring out how to use the wiki. If you see that they need some help, go out of your way to help them. This also applies when they make contributions to the wiki.
Compliment others on their work. When somebody puts a considerable amount of time and energy into writing an awesome tutorial, show them that you appreciate their effort and dedication. A simple compliment goes a long way.
Always try to work with other contributors, instead of against them. When somebody suggests an improvement to your work, take it for what it's worth and not a personal attack on you.
Don't post any illegal or unlawful information, unless you are willing to face the consequences. This wiki is not responsible for your actions; you alone will be the one getting in trouble. This is just a warning for your future knowledge.
Whenever you reference another website or tutorial, always remember to cite it as a reference. Other people have taken their time to make those things, so you should do the right thing and cite them.
Always be who you are. Everybody has something to contribute to the wiki, and we don't want to make you feel like your contributions don't matter. If you have a particular writing style, use that instead of trying to imitate someone else's writing style.
If you downgrade someone's program, you must give a valid reason by adding a comment to the page. It is rude to not do so, and it goes against other guidelines of helping others learn.

Now, let's move forward and let everyone have a clean slate. Any future spamming/abusive posts will be removed, and consistently violating the rules will be grounds for being banned from the site. I don't intend this to be an attack on anyone, I want everyone to either calm down, or behave themselves (or both) so we can all move on from this.

Whether you are a new visitor or a frequent lurker, we are excited that you are on the site! We are a community, made up of a diverse collection of people with different backgrounds and experiences, and we want you to become one of us. It doesn't matter whether you are just starting out in programming or you are already an accomplished programmer, everybody has something that they can contribute.

Before you can participate on the site, you need to sign up to become a member. Registration is a simple two-step process, and involves creating a Wikidot account and then entering the password 'ti-basic-rulez' on the join page to join the site. It is quick and painless, and should take no more than a couple minutes.

There are a few things that you need to know before you go off exploring:

Once you are a site member, please start a new thread and introduce yourself to the community so that we can get to know you better. We're always happy to meet new people on the forum, and I promise we won't bite (unless you want us to) :D

Although we are generally very lax in what we allow on the forum, there are some basic rules that we have established to ensure that the forum is an enjoyable place to be. Please read through and familiarize yourself with the rules.

The expandable CHAR box that appears in the upper right corner of the screen contains the TI-Basic characters that aren't readily accessed from the keyboard. It is meant to be a nice convenience for people who want to post code on the forum, allowing you to quickly copy and paste instead of having to hunt them down every time.

Please do your best to post your threads in the appropriate place. Similarly, start a new thread for your questions, instead of adding them to an existing thread. This helps to keep the forum organized and allows people to read threads without confusion. Of course, we are happy to help you if you don't quite get it right.

Except for personal help from a moderator or administrator, please don't ask people to email or message answers to you. The forum is open for reading as well as responding, so all discussion should go in the threads for others to see.

We hope you enjoy using the site and stop by often!
