The latest TI-84 Plus operating system 2.55 update* features MathPrint™ and is available to download free for TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition graphics calculators. Download this simply instead of going through the mess of TI's website! Uploaded by: Bio_Hazard1282 |
What the community thinks:
I'm glad that this was uploaded to the site (Thank you, Bio_Hazard1282 does not match any existing user name), but I feel like it should be combined into a .zip folder and be put on a page dedicated to collection of past OSes. If anyone agrees with me, I'd be happy to do all of the work to make this happen.
I could see a page for past OS, but I also think that past OS downloads aren't a good Idea as updates are usually made for one of two reasons. Firstly, security; the OS may be updated to prevent glitches, remove backdoors, and just improve the OS overall. Secondly, usability; this usually refers to new features or old features being updated. Being that the current OS is almost always the most recommended, I would just direct users to education.ti.com. Also, since this OS is officially from TI, I believe there should be a mention of the TI site somewhere so that credit is given where credit is due.
TI allows you to use their stuff for educational purposes (I had emailed them about a similar issue, and that's what they told me).
I don't think it necessary to collect EVERY OS made for a calculator (example: all X many TI-84+ OSes), just the most recent one (same example: 2.55 OS). It would mostly be as a backup option for people in case TI decides to no longer offer the most recent OS of a calculator model for some reason
Yah I could agree with Myles_Zadok, a more resent OS is better than older versions. After all, new is better than the old.
After reading through the comments, I decided to post a link to TI Planet, containing several operating systems for the calculators, as I do not believe new is always better. Some people do not like Mathprint and asymptote checking because they slow down the calculator. Also it could be useful for people who want to write their own operating system like myself if they were to decompile them.
